9 Ups & 4 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling (7 Oct)

2. IMPACT Or All Elite?

Prior to his main event outing, Christian Cage was on hand with Gia Miller backstage, essentially delivering a rehashed version of Josh Alexander's promo from earlier in the show. It didn't quite work, but it could have passed as an Up had Christopher Daniels not then cropped up, more or less demanding a future title opportunity.

Now, in the long-term storytelling, yes, this is an excellent move on IMPACT's part. Daniels never held the World Title, though he did come close to dethroning AJ Styles during two sublime clashes in November and December 2009.

If you look at IMPACT's most recent World Champions, though, they've both been AEW signed talent. There's nothing overtly wrong with this per se, as it cements IMPACT's legitimacy and gets the title seen on a larger network, but they must never book a title bout solely involving AEW guys. This is an IMPACT championship; having solely AEW-contracted names feuding over it effectively renders IMPACT's main event scene pointless.

Daniels vs. Cage would be a hoot, but let's put that aside in favour of Josh Alexander as champion. It needs that IMPACT aura back to it.
