Pleasant surprises are a nice bonus on pay-per-views, and "pleasant surprise" is something one could call Bianca Belair vs. Carmella. Was it an essential watch? Not particularly. Did anyone think 'Mella was leaving with the Raw Women's strap? Nah, it'd be a lie to claim otherwise.

Both women exceeded expectations though.

Nobody thought their match would stink, necessarily, but it was better than most foregone conclusion title defences typically are. Carmella deserves a lot of credit for stepping up after Rhea Ripley's injury wrecked WWE's plans too. Her post-match attack also made sense.

This was a tidy little seven-minute scrap that reminded everyone how scorching Belair's gymnastics approach can be. She's so fluid inside that ring, and 'Mella was a solid base for the champ to showcase what she brings to the table.

There's nothing wrong with this kind of filler. It was good filler.
