9 Ups & 5 Downs From AEW Dynamite (Mar 25)

3. Cody On Commentary

Cody Tony Schiavone

Jim Ross and Excalibur were out last night, replaced in the commentary booth by Cody and an intermittent Kenny Omega, who dipped in and out throughout the evening.

Omega's performance was relatively nondescript, but Cody's? Cody's was a joy.

'The American Nightmare' wasn't as polished as his absent colleagues, but how could he be? He compensated for this with boundless enthusiasm and by drawing on his vast wrestling knowledge. There were references to Sting, Bill Watts, and countless others throughout the night. On top of this, Cody sounded like he was having a great time out there, and that energy penetrated the television, lifting everything up a notch or two.

If Tony Schiavone is to be joined by a different wrestler every week until this whole thing blows over, AEW could do a lot worse than bringing Cody back at some point. He was excellent.
