9 Ups And 2 Downs From WWE Raw (June 2)

1. Dominik Steps Up

So after plugging the “retirement of Rey Mysterio” for the past week, WWE delivered a big shoulder shrug Monday night, as Rey didn’t confirm or deny his retirement, as Seth Rollins had promised.

That was not a bait-and-switch, as the Monday Night Messiah’s word should never have been taken at face value, but what made it worthwhile was during a satellite interview with Mysterio, his son Dominik showed up on the screen saying that someone from the family should step up to shut Rollins up. Rey acknowledged that his career might be over, and Dominik clearly wanted to step up to Seth in lieu of his father.

As the interview ended, Rey walked off, but Dominik sat in front of the camera for a few extra seconds, looking at the screen and telling Rollins “an eye for an eye.” It’ll be interesting to see where this leads, as there’s speculation that Seth could try to recruit the younger Mysterio for his flock, or perhaps Dominik will take on Rollins.

Either way, this was a nice little segment to incorporate Dominik into the angle.
