9 Ups And 6 Downs From WWE Money In The Bank 2021

2. Nikki Captures The Briefcase

This writer will be happy to be proven wrong, but Nikki A.S.H. (she’s no longer “ASH,” but each letter is spelled out) winning the Money in the Bank briefcase is a head-scratcher.

To put it bluntly, Nikki in her current incarnation is a comedy character, like the Hurricane was a generation ago. A cape-wearing almost-a-superhero holding the top women’s title just doesn’t sound right.

The women’s MITB match opened the PPV proper, and the crowd popped for everyone – except Nikki. It was silence for her, including during most of her spots during the ladder match. In fact, aside from her one dive off the ladder onto the entire field, Nikki didn’t have much offense at all, save for retrieving the briefcase.

Maybe time will prove this wrong, but we saw last year with Otis winning the MITB match that comedy characters holding the briefcase don’t do well. We’re not holding out hope for Nikki A.S.H. here.
