9 Ways Impact Wrestling Can Successfully Rebrand

2. Forget The X Division

It was always considered to be the strength of the company, but if Impact is to succeed it truly needs to leave the X Division behind. Cruiserweight wrestling is always going to be worth booking, but the branding and history of the X Division prevents Impact from moving forward.

You can’t talk about the X Division without talking about stars that Impact squandered, performers such as AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, and Christopher Daniels. The neglect of the division also looms large over the promotion’s recent years. It needs to be put to rest.

Impact needs to introduce new championships into its new brand, and the secondary title needs to be a fresh strap for the middle of the card. No weight limits, no judges, no gimmicks. Just wrestlers working their way up the ladder, using titles as stepping stones to the biggest prize. It isn’t rocket science.

The glory days of the X Division are long gone, and every attempt to revive them only serves to reinforce the negative perception of the company.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
