World Wrestling Entertainment's interest in the King of the Ring gimmick was long dead by 2012, but if it had been kept alive then I'm fairly sure its importance would still have lessened by then. Money in the Bank would have long replaced it as the vehicle for establishing men in the main event, and King of the Ring would have mostly served as a vehicle for new stars.

Damien Sandow arrived on WWE TV in April 2012, and was immediately positioned as a performer to keep an eye on. His pompous gimmick would have been exacerbated by the crown, and his various nicknames were well suited to gaining royal appendages. King Damien Sandow is extremely easy to imagine.

The tournament itself would have featured a number of guys in the middle of the card, with Sandow coming out on top in the finals against former King Christian, after besting Tyson Kidd in the semis.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
