Much like Eddie Guerrero in 2005, 2011 saw The Miz enter something of a rebuilding period. He had lost his WWE Championship to John Cena, and was about to return to the middle of the card to do a whole lot of not very much. He teamed with R-Truth for a bit, won the odd big match and generally teased a face turn the whole turn.

As such, The Miz winning King of the Ring in 2011 is the perfect 'well, we're not sure who else to go with' sort of deal. 2011 wasn't a great year for the company in general, with the emergence of CM Punk as a top level player the only moment of joy that was quickly squashed by Kevin Nash of all people.

Alberto Del Rio was another option for winning the crown, but he had enough support throughout the year. Let's go with The Miz beating John Morrison in the semi finals, followed by a win over plucky underdog Evan Bourne in the final.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
