After two years of fairly low-key presentation, the King of the Ring tournament would have returned with a bang in 2014. The man to stand tall at the end would have been the same man who received arguably the biggest push of the latter half of the year, a man who wasn't pinned all the way up until WrestleMania 31.

I'm talking, of course, about Rusev.

Rusev enjoyed his medals and his awards, so adding the crown to his list of accolades (har har har) is a no-brainer. The image of Rusev being crowned as the Russian flag unfurls behind him would have gained huge amounts of heat from the crowd. And anyway, who wouldn't have loved to have seen Queen Lana?

The tournament could very well have been stacked, with Rusev having to go through 2013 finalist Xavier Woods, Big E. and Big Show before coming up against Ryback in the final. Rusev vs. Ryback, with Ryback tapping to the Accolade in the middle of the ring.

All hail King Rusev!

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
