9 Wrestling Moves Sami Zayn Doesn’t Do Anymore

3. Koji Clutch

In truth, it isn’t difficult to make a good argument for the disappearance of the majority of these missing moves. Sami Zayn has been a heel for nearly three years, and what good is a heel that performs moves designed to wow and amaze the audience? Heaven forbid people start cheering him, especially after he has worked so hard to turn them against him. Where is the psychology in Zayn putting his body on the line when he could simply resort to punches and kicks?

But none of this applies to the Koji Clutch. Invented by Koji Kanemoto, this submission is a seriously vicious manoeuvre. Zayn utilised the move often in NXT, wrapping his leg around the mush of his opponent while hooking his hands behind their head, simultaneously pulling back with his arms and pushing forward with his leg. The result is an anaconda-like grip and an inevitable passing out.

Zayn used the move to win a number of matches in NXT but it hasn’t been seen in a long time. A horrible, suffocating submission is exactly the sort of thing that fits in with a heelish character, so it is difficult to make an argument for this being left in the locker.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
