9 Wrestling Personalities Killed Off In Mainstream Wrestling Storylines

7. Abdullah The Butcher

Hey, remember when WCW held a match with a stipulation that required someone to be strapped into an electric chair and the switch to be thrown in order for a wrestler to win? Ever notice that's also one of the methods of execution for death row inmates?

But that was the core concept of the Chamber of Horrors match that opened the show at Halloween Havoc in 1991. Two four-man teams were pitted against each other inside a steel cage, with weaponized garbage scattered around the ring, and one team had to try to murder one of the other team's members.

After a very cluttered and claustrophobic match, Rick Steiner got Abdullah the Butcher strapped into the chair and Cactus Jack flipped the switch. Sparks shot up from all around the chair as Abdullah writhed around unconvincingly, his skin appearing to be smoking and Jim Ross wondering who was going to give the big man mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. The implication here is that the Butcher, however momentarily, was clinically dead.

After a minute or so, Abdullah did open his eyes and spring back to life, but there's no denying that, for all intents and purposes, this dude was "dead" in the middle of the ring.
