The Rusev Day bunting has long since dismally fluttered to the ground. Since his 2018 revival came to an inglorious end, with his employers once again missing the point of the organic phenomenon - or, more cynically, purposely sabotaging it - the Bulgarian Brute has gradually faded into WWE's wallpaper, a complete background irrelevance.

It's a very poorly kept secret that Rusev is not best pleased with his current plight in the promotion. The former US Champion has been absent from WWE television for the past fortnight, after apparently asking he company for some time off, as rumours about his exit continue to circle.

If Rusev is released from his contract, you can guarantee that now more than ever his next move would be hamstrung by clauses obstructing future employment endeavours. That's just about the only barrier preventing the Bulgarian leaping a literal one on TNT later this year.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
