A Beginner's Guide To WWE's Netflix Era
1. WrestleMania X7 (01/04/01)
Wrestling should be a variety show.
It's a statement that even some fans forget about as they go online and tear down a match that 'isn't wrestling' to them. Wrestling can be so many things and not many shows cover every single base. The seventeenth edition of WrestleMania gave us nearly everything we could have wished for.
The main event between The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin is the middle match of their WrestleMania trilogy and delivers is spades. The promos in the build up to it are some of the best WWE have ever put out and they're the reason some fans wistfully remember Limp Bizkit. The match itself is incredible and made all the more memorable for the actions of Vince McMahon towards the end.
If you prefer some high flying action then the Triple Threat 'TLC' match pitting The Dudley Boy, Edge and Christian and The Hardy Boys against each other. It's a match that cane be summed up in the moment of Edge spearing Jeff Hardy from a ladder and crashing to the ring twelve feet below them.
If you prefer some wrestlers smashing each other through walls and hitting each other with bin lids then the Hardcore Championship match between Kane, The Big Show and Raven is a fine example. If family drama is more your thing then watch Shane McMahon take on Vince McMahon in a Street Fight. If you want to watch two other WWE legends having an arena wide brawl then Triple H versus The Undertaker certainly has you covered. If it's just a laugh and a giggle you want then have a look at the Gimmick Battle Royale as faces from wrestling's past engage in a nostalgia fueled elimination match.
It really doesn't matter at all what you personally want from wrestling when you watch WrestleMania 17 as there's always at least one part of the show that will tick a box for you. For that reason it's by far the best show for anybody to introduce themselves to the world of professional wrestling.
