AEW: 10 Things You Didn’t Know About MJF

7. He Was Once An Extra On NXT

MJF likes to talking a good game about, “The Bidding War of ‘24,” and the fact that WWE apparently wish to secure his services. If he does ever sign with AEW’s competitor, you have to imagine he’ll skip NXT 2.0 and head straight to the main roster. Anything else would be beneath him at this point.

You might find it a surprise then, to learn that not only has Maxwell already appeared on NXT, but he wasn’t even a jobber hired to make another talent look good. Instead he was simply an extra, playing one of a security detail accompanying Samoa Joe to the ring at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn II.

Of course, loads of wrestlers appear as extras early in their career, including current rival CM Punk, who played a gangster as part of John Cena’s WrestleMania 22 entrance. That said, playing a bit part backstage isn’t a good fit for MJF’s backstory as a wealthy prodigy.

Embarrassingly, he even messed his part up, attempting to walk alongside Joe instead of falling behind. Joe responded by shoving MJF into a wall and leaving “The Salt of The Earth”looking genuinely annoyed.

The mistake (if indeed it was a mistake) obviously stayed with Max, as he ended up weaving it into an AEW segment. Accompanied by an entourage backstage, MJF echoed his NXT moment, only this time it was his turn to shove aside a lackey who got too close.
