AEW Dynasty 2024: 10 Nightmares That Could Come True
4. Tony Khan Tries To 'WrestleMania X8' The Title Bout
Uh oh.
At ’Manias X8 and 25, WWE tried to force the World Title bout into the main event position despite fans being blatantly more interested in other matches. Triple H vs. Chris Jericho wasn’t a patch on Hogan vs. Rock in 2002, and Trips was at it again vs. Randy Orton in 2009 when everyone knew HBK vs. ’Taker was the main attraction.
AEW has a similar sort of dilemma heading into Dynasty. No, Will Ospreay vs. Bryan Danielson isn’t on par with the superstardom in those WWE classics, but it is the current showdown countless fans want to see most. Samoa Joe vs. Swerve Strickland couldn’t hope to follow it, basically, so Tony Khan shouldn’t even bother trying to find out.
Sure, the World Title is a promotional centrepiece, but Dynasty is more about Ospreay testing himself against Danielson than anything else. Swerve can still have his big celebration on the undercard. However, it’d fall slightly flat if AEW expected he and Joe to follow Will and Bryan in the headline slot.
