If you remove the bad taste of the Eddie Guerrero aspect of this story, these two put on a great opening match to the 2006 edition of SummerSlam. Watching back made me remember that Chavo Guerrero might just be criminally underrated in the ring. We all remember his never-ending feud with Hornswoggle, but the guy could go and was a valuable heel in the midcard of WWE. He was particularly good when facing off with Rey Rey, as shown here.

Another interesting aspect of this match is just how good JBL was on commentary at the time. He wasn’t long out of the ring and was still a pure heel, something that shone through during his commentary and helped the matches. He consistently sold the Guerrero family fighting spirit through this match, which added to the planned intensity. The match ends when Vickie Guerrero runs down to ringside and pleads with both combatants to stop fighting. Neither listens of course, but she ‘accidentally’ knocks Rey off the top allowing Chavo to pick up the win.

Side point; forgive my shallowness, but check out Vickie here compared to Vickie in 2010 with Dolph. A fine wine, a fine wine.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
