You know, this isn’t exactly a horrible match. Bulldog could go when need be, Steamboat is one of the best of all the time and Hercules and Paul Roma were both competent enough. Texas Tornado and The Warlord? Well, I guess they had muscles. Still, there is absolutely nothing of any real value here, it is a by the numbers six-man tag match that most people won’t remember. Even watching back, there is next to nothing of interest here, other than Bobby Heenan’s awkward-in-hindsight comment about Kerry Von Erich being ‘Texas born, Texas bred and Texas dead’. Whoops. The babyface team win with Steamboat pinning Paul Roma, although Roma kicks out at 3.1 because 1991.

The real highlight of the opening to SummerSlam 1991 is Vince McMahon and his ridiculous intro. 1991 saw a double main event, with Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth tying the knot, and a handicap match between Hulk Hogan/Ultimate Warrior and Sgt. Slaughter/Colonel Mustafa/General Adnan. Vince describes this as ‘from nuptials, to NAPAAAAAAAALM!’ in his ridiculous voice. It is glorious.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
