Here’s a fun fact for you; Rey Mysterio has been in more SummerSlam opening matches than any other competitor in history. Five times he has been there, and his record reads two wins and three losses, which sounds about right for Rey Mysterio. Much like entry number 22 this was as by the numbers as it gets, featuring six guys who needed to be on the card and not much else. Rey himself was barely involved until the closing stretch, with Del Rio doing next to nothing as well.

The match is also full of a number of bug bears from this era in WWE. Michael Cole was at the height of his Miz fandom here, which makes for some unbearable commentary. The sheer ridiculousness of the 619 set up is also evident, with R-Truth staying in position for the move for what seems like forever. Still, Kofi Kingston jumped around a lot, Truth was complaining about Lil’ Jimmy and the crowd seemed to like it.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
