6. Abbey Laith

Like LeRae, many may have fancied Abbey Laith to go all the way and lift the trophy - especially when it was made clear that she was utilising Mae Young's finisher en route to victories over Jazzy Gabert and Rachel Evers.

That first round match against Gabert was perhaps the best basic 'smaller underdog overcomes larger opponent' match of the whole tournament, with Laith demonstrating some brilliant babyface fire. Her next bout with Evers was more of a redemption story for Rachel after a shocking first round match, but Abbey again impressed. Finally, that quarterfinal loss to Mercedes Martinez was one of the first bouts in the Mae Young Classic that felt like a proper, pay per view level war. Truth be told, I expected Laith to progress, and was disappointed she didn't - but her run remains one of the best things in the tournament.
