This was one of the most highly-anticipated matches on the show. So many people wanted Charlotte to get revenge on Nikki Bella, and were even more desperate to see a title change. Needless to say, both of those things took place on Sunday.

Although it wasn’t a one-sided and emotionally-charged fight that would’ve made a bit more sense from a storytelling perspective, it was still an even contest that made both of them look strong. Nikki deserves credit for using a considerably larger amount of wrestling psychology in this match than in many of her recent singles and tag team matches. As does Charlotte, whose screams and selling made Nikki’s offense look almost legitimate, which made her look like a much better competitor.

That said, some parts of the match dragged on. Charlotte’s offense was very short, consisting of very few strikes and a Spear before hitting her Figure-Eight submission hold for the victory. While this was the right ending, something about the last two minutes was a bit disappointing from a story perspective. Charlotte won with her submission hold, she didn’t sell the pain that it caused her, which was a noticeable flaw in detail.

Tiny flaws aside, that doesn’t take away from the fact that this was a crucial match that, with luck, will lead to a far more competitive Divas division going forward.

Final Rating: **3/4
