As big a fan as I am of both teams in this match, there was nothing in the actual match that made it stand-out that much. That isn’t to say that the match was boring or poor in any way; it’s just that neither one of them did anything overly unique for either team.

As the veterans, the Dudleys did a great job of legitimizing the champions and the titles they held. While they showed that they could still work without a significant decrease in match quality, it was the New Day that stole this match with their wacky and over-the-top antics. The best parts of their offense were Big E’s apron body splash (which always looks painful), and the corner stomping accompanied by Xavier Woods’ trombone playing.

In the end the Dudleys hit the 3D II on Big E and then the 3D on Kofi, before Woods interfered and caused the disqualification finish. The Dudleys use of two major moves in quick succession showed that they can change the direction of a match in a second, while the New Day used the ever-valuable numbers game to win. That was more classic heel work that reminded the fans that, despite the group’s wackiness, they’re supposed to be booed.

All in all, it was a decent match that highlighted the importance of character work in the New Day’s matches. Hopefully they’ll hold the titles for a long time and keep putting on interesting matches.

Final Rating: **3/4
