CM Punk announced an injury serious enough to necessitate surgery on last week's episode of AEW Rampage, forcing him away from the ring for an undetermined period of time.

AEW had learned that surgery would be required just before the show hit the airwaves. Punk was reportedly hurt while teaming with FTR to face Gunn Club and Max Caster on Dynamite two days prior, though whether or not he'd have to go under the knife wasn't known until Friday.

In the latest update on the situation, Mike Johnson of PWInsider reports that there is still no word on when the AEW World Champion will undergo his procedure. It is believed, however, that this is the only option, as Punk's undisclosed injury may not heal correctly without the surgery.

There is still no word on how long Punk will be out of action for. AEW has opted against stripping him of the World Championship he won by defeating 'Hangman' Adam Page at Double Or Nothing 2022 (29 May), instead arranging the Interim World Championship Eliminator Series in Punk's absence.

All the best to CM Punk for his surgery and subsequent recovery.
