Bill Goldberg Rules Out Working For "Cheesy" AEW

Despite previous discussions with Tony Khan, Goldberg rules out wrestling for "cheesy" AEW.

With various rumblings over the past year or more that Bill Goldberg could work some dates for AEW, Da Man himself has now moved to rule out working for Tony Khan's promotion.

Early last year, Khan discussed his respect for Goldberg, how he was a "household name", and that Bill's free agent status was "something else to keep an eye on for us". While the four-time World Champion admits he's had talks with the AEW President, he's labelled the AEW product as "too cheesy" for him to seriously consider working there.

Speaking during an appearance on 93.7 The Ticket (via WrestlingNews.co), Goldberg explained:

"I’ve talked to [Tony Khan] a number of times throughout the past. This is where you’re gonna get the most blunt answer you’re gonna get from me. The product is too cheesy. The product is too cheesy. It doesn’t deserve to have, whatever, now you’re really gonna get me going. But if there was a comparable, viable option as a competitor that would allow me to still look myself in the mirror after I was a member of their roster? Yeah, then it would be a consideration, but not a chance.”

As it stands, Goldberg's most recent match was in February 2022, where he lost to Roman Reigns at WWE Elimination Chamber. The former Atlanta Falcons defensive tackle would officially depart WWE towards the end of that year after the company opted against renewing his contract.

Bill has openly discussed how Vince McMahon had promised him a proper retirement match once that Roman bout was out of the way, but that obviously never came to pass. Since exiting WWE, the 57-year-old Goldberg has been open about how he'd like to do one final match elsewhere under the right circumstances. Seemingly, that "elsewhere" won't be AEW.
