Bloc Party Interview: Russell Lissack Talks Silent Alarm Tour, Novacub & New Japan Pro Wrestling

WhatCulture last spoke with you in early 2017 about wrestling, but that industry changes awfully quickly! What are you currently enjoying? Also, your dream matches at the time were Shawn Michaels vs. AJ Styles and John Cena vs. The Undertaker - what did you make of the one that actually happened, and are there any new ones that have come about since?

I've been watching a lot more New Japan Pro Wrestling than WWE recently. There was a tournament called the G1 Climax which was great. I'm really enjoying guys like Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi and Tetsuya Naito. Ronda Rousey in WWE has been awesome too. Cena/Undertaker wasn't exactly the match I hoped for but it was cool to see The Undertaker looking great again. Would love to see Daniel Bryan vs. Brock Lesnar. It's a shame as they've had several opportunities to do that match but it looks like that ship has sailed. So I suppose the dream matches now would all be inter-promotional affairs - NJPW vs. WWE basically!

Following on from the Silent Alarm tour, are there any immediate plans to do anything else with Bloc Party? What are the possibilities of new releases, live dates or possibly a new album in 2019 or beyond? And what are your hopes and goals for Novacub over the next couple of years?

As I mentioned earlier, there is nothing planned beyond the dates already announced. Its unpredictable being in Bloc Party, we might suddenly meet up and record some music or we might not speak to each other for another year but that's where things currently stand.

It's exciting with Novacub at the moment too, we're in the middle of sorting out some more gigs and potentially a release so the best thing is to check us out on Twitter or Instagram at @novacubmusic. We also have a few demos up on Youtube @novacubmusic though they might not be there for too long. Other than that people can reach me on Instagram @russellblocparty or Twitter @TheJ_Russ.
