Bret Hart Vs. Shawn Michaels Complete History | Wrestling Timelines

January 4, 2010 - The Reunion

Years have passed. Shawn has said of Bret, on Raw in 1998, “Who the hell is that? Some midcarder?” - a reference to the fact that WCW, as Bret suspected all along, had no clue how to effectively promote him. Shawn has also mocked Bret, in the parameters of a storyline, by returning to Montreal in 2005 and playing Bret’s entrance theme to rib the crowd.

In 2010, four years after he is inducted into the Hall of Fame, Bret makes his actual return to WWE programming. His feud with Mr. McMahon is awful, but he movingly reconciles with Shawn in the middle of the ring live on Raw.

It’s lovely - still a bit tense and cold - but lovely. In later years, while never becoming best friends, Bret and Shawn will catch up from time to time, reminisce happily, and over the phone, wish each other a happy birthday.
