Britt Baker could be finished with AEW after becoming wildly unpopular backstage, reports PWTorch's Wade Keller.

On the Torch's VIP Podcast, Keller stated:

"[Britt Baker] might be done with AEW, at least the feeling I'm getting from talking to people in AEW is Tony Khan might have her in the same category as some other wrestlers where they just don't get phone calls and don't get called in to show up."

Baker, who last appeared for AEW on the 13 November episode of Dynamite, has been the subject of backstage frustration in AEW, with one of Keller's sources commenting that nobody wanted her to return:

"There's a lot of frustration with her, I'm told - and I've heard this pretty consistently - she's wildly unpopular in the women's locker room. One person said: 'No one ever wants to see her come back', speaking of the women's locker room. Now, that is a bold, broad statement. I could imagine someone on social media going 'I'm a women's wrestler in AEW and I want her back.' Okay, fair enough, but I'm just telling you somebody's perception is 'nobody wants her back', that's how bad it is. Somebody was willing to tell me that."

Britt defeated Penelope Ford in her most recent AEW match on 13 November. Afterwards, AEW shot an angle with Serena Deeb entering and hitting the stage, seemingly setting Baker up with her next opponent. This was never followed up. While Deeb entered, Britt was shown in the ring saying "Nobody cares."

Why AEW Removed Britt Baker From Television

In July, Baker had reported backstage troubles with MJF and his partner, Alicia Atout. Per Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Britt had said something about MJF in the women's locker room, leading to MJF confronting Baker after Atout had told him of the situation. AEW HR intervened, a disciplinary committee investigated the situation, and Britt was reportedly suspended for 1-2 weeks.

In his new report, Keller states that the MJF situation factored into Britt being removed from television, though this was far from the only issue with Baker:

"There was the incident with her and MJF, and I'm told that factors into her being off television, but there are other issues with her that have come up. She has become increasingly difficult to work with in a general sense, she has always had a reputation for being difficult to work with."

Keller added that another backstage incident may have been the final straw for Tony Khan when it came to removing Britt from television:

"There was a specific situation recently in and not counting the MJF situation, where people just threw their hands up. And I don't know a lot of details on it but I was told a little bit, but, maybe... it wasn't a huge deal, but it was enough to sort of be the straw that broke the camel's back in terms of feeling like: 'You know what? We've got a strong women's division now, compared to when she was on top and we don't need to deal with her if she's gonna be this difficult to work with'. And so that's where they are with her. "

It was stated that Baker's recent real-life split from former partner Adam Cole did not contribute to the situation.

According to Keller, Baker's name being linked to backstage issues isn't anything new. He claimed that even at the height of Britt's push, there was talk of her being difficult to work with and protective of her spot. Now, Khan has opted to spend his television time on other wrestlers:

"Obviously she had some standout moments in AEW and became a star and was seen as a centerpiece act, but even back then I was hearing about her reputation and being unpopular in certain circles and being difficult to work with and being fiercely territorial of her role in the company in a way that just felt unsustainable. From what I'm hearing, at least the attitude right now at the moment, the belief is that Tony Khan is fed up enough that he's just gonna focus his TV time on others."

While the prospect of Baker returning isn't entirely out of the question (Keller mentioned Britt apologising or an injury crisis in the AEW women's division as potential factors), it is unlikely that she will be back in AEW imminently.

Baker has been part of the AEW roster since its 2019 launch. She was an important piece of the promotion's puzzle during its first few years of operation, getting over huge in the women's division and starring in an acclaimed rivalry with Thunder Rosa. Injury troubles have since hampered her on-screen - and her overness has unquestionably declined in recent years.

When Jamie Hayter returned to AEW following her own long-term injury absence at All In: London last year, she did so without Britt, her long-term ally, at her side. The duo have not interacted on television since.
