After eight years away from WWE, Brock Lesnar was back and bigger than ever. Not necessarily from a physique standpoint, but from a mainstream recognition one.

Upon his shocking return, he immediately challenged John Cena, the man who became the most famous wrestler on the planet in his absence. Brock was ready to prove that had he not left, the world wouldn’t even know who Cena was.

The night after WrestleMania 29, Brock emerged to a massive pop and F-5’d Cena. It was on. At Extreme Rules, they put on a match with a more realistic style than what we’d perhaps ever seen in the company. For all the hate Cena gets, he absolutely brought it that night, an incredible performance that perhaps no one else on the roster could match in terms of sheer strength and aggression. The ruthless kind of aggression.

The ending was a big surprise, and a huge disappointment. Cena beat the company’s huge new gigantic investment, and it took Lesnar a couple years before he fully recovered from the loss.

Still, despite being out of the ring for years, Lesnar and Cena put on one of the year's best, and their follow-up was somehow even more vicious.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
