Hulk Hogan (captain), Dusty Rhodes and The Hart Foundation versus Mr. Perfect (captain), The Brain Busters and 'The Widowmaker' Barry Windham (with Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan).

Between 1988-89, WWF had almost every piece of the puzzle. The Brain Busters and Barry Windham were under contract and JJ Dillon was working with the front office. Unfortunately, the final Horseman didn't leave Jim Crockett's stable in time.

Vince McMahon had apparently flirted with the idea of bringing in Ric Flair to feud with Randy Savage at SummerSlam 1988, but plans evaporated when Flair remained loyal to the NWA. For the sake of the experiment however, there may be a workaround.

Eight days following his last pay-per-view appearance, NWA World Champion Ric Flair buys a front row ticket to watch his fellow Horsemen follow Mr. Perfect into battle against legendary rival Dusty Rhodes, The Hart Foundation and the OTHER biggest name in the business, Hulk Hogan.

The specter of future showdowns looming large, Flair observes as Windham gets disqualified for choking Hogan with a bull rope. Tully Blanchard eliminates Jim Neidhart via Spike Piledriver next, and Bret Hart falls soon after to an Arn Anderson spinebuster. Perfect sends Dusty packing with a Perfect Plex after The Brain Busters are DQ'd for excessive double teaming, but can't snuff the Hulkster's rally. Perfect is pulled to safety by Heenan, taking a countout instead of a Leg Drop. After the match, the WWF Champion stares daggers at the NWA Champion from the center of the ring.
