Cesaro In WWE: Where Did It All Go Wrong
7. No John Cena Follow Up
...this.
Cesaro's match vs. John Cena on the 6 July 2015 Raw was truly epic. Both men went for it during the rematch, and it earned rave reviews as one of the best wrestling bouts that year. WWE followed up on this by pushing Cesaro towards the top of the card and rewarding his superior in-ring skills.
Only joking. Instead, they proceeded to do pretty much nothing with Cesaro other than have him come up short against guys like Rusev and Randy Orton over the next few months. Cena, who had grabbed a mic to tell the live crowd post-Raw clash that Cesaro deserved to be main-eventing, must've been confused himself.
He'd done everything in his power to showcase Cesaro's strengths (long, well-paced matches punctuated by displays of power, poise and technical skill), but WWE weren't interested in using that as a launching pad for the guy.
Cesaro was doomed to be a "nearly man".
