Cesaro In WWE: Where Did It All Go Wrong

6. The Weird “James Bond” Phase

A period on the sidelines through injury followed that, then Cesaro returned on the post-WrestleMania 32 Raw with a new look. Immediately, those who recalled Dean Malenko's plight from 2000 worried that WWE viewed the world class worker as Malenko 2K16.

He was handed the agonising "suave ladies man" gimmick.

This was basically WWE's way of saying, 'Hey, we know you don't have much charisma - have this and let's hope for the best'. Cesaro wore tearaway suits that he'd strip off during his entrance, and actually looked more like he was cosplaying Men In Black than some super-slick James Bond knock off.

The gimmick would prove to be a noose around his character's neck more than anything. It clashed horribly with his technical, 'boots n' tights' in-ring style, and he didn't have the promo skills to offset that. Also, nothing about Cesaro's entrance music at the time screamed sexy ladies man.

Nothing.
