Christian Cage FAILS World Title Cash-In At Revolution 2025 (AEW News)

Christian Cage added himself to the AEW Revolution main event.

As many predicted, Christian Cage did indeed have a role to play in the main event of AEW Revolution last night. Unfortunately for Captain Charisma, though, things didn't go to plan at the Crypto.com Arena.

Of course, the Revolution main event saw Cope challenge Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship. With Christian lurking in the shadows with his guaranteed title shot, the Patriarcy leader opted to insert himself into that bout mid-match.

Cage first appeared under a hoodie, pulling referee Bryce Remsburg out of the ring after Cope hit Mox with a spear. Christian then signed the contract to formally make himself a part of the match, nailing his former tag team partner with the metal case before doing so.

We'd get a few false finishes and close calls - a Killswitch on Cope from Christian being a particular highlight - but Moxley would eventually sink in the bulldog choke on Cage and make him pass out. so, with AEW Revolution now in the books, Jon Moxley is still your AEW World Champion.

And the crowd went mild.

While AEW Revolution 2025 was a stacked card full of some phenomenal matches, the main event was once again just a total drag, with the whole Death Riders stuff, in your writer's opinion, continuing to be a painful weight around AEW's neck. Given the talented roster AEW has, did we necessarily need to see Cope as the AEW World Champion? Likely not, but it did feel that we were at a point where Cope would at least be a slightly fresher alternative to Jon Moxley. Likewise, the same could be said about Christian Cage, a not ideal choice for World Champ but a mildly better option than Mox. And given how the guaranteed title shot contract Cage held needed to be signed before it was cashed in, many had speculation that someone else - Jay White maybe? - could ultimately be the person signing the deal and walking out as World Champion.

Now, White did get involved at AEW Revolution, but that involvement meant accidentally hitting Cope with the briefcase that contains the AEW World Title. Switchblade and Christian Cage weren't the only ones getting themselves involved in the main event, either, with Wheeler Yuta the first person to make their mark. After teasing hitting Moxley, Yuta instead reiterated his allegiance to Mox and the Death Riders by throwing that aforementioned briefcase into the ring.

What's Next For Jon Moxley?

While Jon Moxley standing tall as the AEW World Champion was the result of the Revolution main event, it wasn't Cope, Christian Cage, or even 'Switchblade' Jay White who had Mox's attention when Revolution closed out.

Having defeated Ricochet earlier in the night to become the new #1 contender for Moxley's AEW World Title, Swerve Strickland attacked Mox at the close of this latest PPV. As the Death Riders' leader made his way to the back, he was confronted by Prince Nana. This was all merely a nice distraction, with Swerve then diving from the stands to deliver a Swerve Stomp to Moxley.

So, with Cope now seemingly in his rear-view mirror, up next for Jon Moxley is Swerve Strickland, with it great to see Strickland back in the World Title picture. Will Swerve be the one to bring Moxley's reign to an end, or will he merely be the next in line to fall to Mox and the Death Riders? One can only hope it's the former, but we'll have to wait and see how things play out, with the two realistically likely to lock horns at AEW Dynasty next month.

For those wondering, Moxley and Strickland have only gone one-on-one once before, with that coming during the 2023 Continental Classic and resulting in a win for Moxley. Away from that, the pair were part of a triple threat featuring Jay White later that same month - with Moxley again winning
