CM Punk: 7 Reasons He Could Have Been The Biggest WWE Star Of 2014

7. It's A 2011 Reboot But Bigger

In 2011 the WWE and CM Punk conspired to do a worked shoot that propelled the star to main event stardom. His 'Pipe Bomb' promo in which he berated the WWE and set himself against the WWE machine was genius. Not since Steve Austin and 3:16 had we seen such a naturally delivered promo that MADE a character. It was all built off Punk's very real woes with the company and as such it engaged fans in a big way, ultimately making Punk a cross over mainstream star, known to even people who don't watch WWE. In 2014 we saw a strikingly similar situation, Punk was unhappy with the company and this time he really did quit. That has made it so much bigger of a story. If Punk returned it would have been even bigger than 2011 because this time there was such a vaccum of answers. We have had his absence for over a month which has made fans appreciate the star even more, the demand for CM Punk has never been stronger. As a result his return would have seen him spike tv ratings, draw PPV buys and sell more merchandise than ever before. The 2011 Pipe Bomb storyline would have ended up being rebooted with this whole walkout situation and CM Punk had the chance to do even bigger business than last time around. He is a made star with the most interesting story in WWE right now despite being AWOL. Bouncing off of that he could have dominated the rest of the year. Instead Raw transpired without him, devastating the hopes of Punk fans for a second coming.
