CM Punk: 7 Reasons He Could Have Been The Biggest WWE Star Of 2014
6. He Is A More Reliable Main Event Act Than Daniel Bryan
Daniel Bryan is immensely popular right now, but if CM Punk had returned last night in such an inflated manner it would have given the Chicago native a great opportunity to reclaim his place as the number 2 star behind John Cena. Punk was excellently positioned to overshadow Bryan. In terms of wrestling skill they are very similar, but when it comes to promo quality it is Punk who is the undoubted superior. When both are working at their absolute best, Punk just about shades it as the better talent. For that reason he would have long term managed to best Daniel Bryan in 2014. In the short term, Bryan is the star of Wrestlemania season. But he is an unproven talent to run on top and when he did in Autumn we witnessed PPV numbers bomb. If he can survive away from the underdog role when he has achieved his goals remains to be seen. Punk in contrast is a proven draw. He has the experience to run on top in WWE and is a much safer bet than Daniel Bryan. The YES movement is popular but coming off the walkout worked shoot angle we would have expected CM Punk to be the very hottest act on the roster. What we actually saw happen on the Chicago Raw was Daniel Bryan solidify his popularity in a war of words with Triple H, leaving very little scope for Punk to now come back as the number 2 guy in the business.
