5. WWE Will Extend Punks Contract
WWE.comThis rumor picked up considerable steam in the past month, as July rapidly approached. With each passing week that Punk does not return, we draw a week closer to the end of his WWE contract. Once that happens, the conversation will flip to being more about if hell re-sign or if hes truly gone. But as long as Punk is under WWE contract, it helps further speculation about an impending return. WWE extending Punks contract might make sense from a business perspective (it would prevent him from working for another promotion), but it also would prolong the rumors about Punks status with the company. (FYI, Raw will eminate from Chicago on September 29, so let the speculation about Punk showing up then begin.) This is a rumor that will be borne out in the coming weeks. If they dont extend the contract, expect a semi-new rumor about whether this entire thing is a work being played out to the extreme (a la Brian Pillman in WCW).
