CM Punk's apparent walk-out on the WWE has shocked the wrestling industry. Initial details were limited to Dave Meltzer saying Punk was gone, probably because of burnout but more info is now starting to trickle through. Mike Johnson of PWInsider reports that the backstage belief within the company is that Punk no longer factored into any WWE plans. Despite his contract running to July, those who are willing to talk believe he is done now. All talk of this being an angle can be dismissed, those talking about the incident from inside WWE aren't part of any work. Several of the PWInsider's sources are saying that Punk was scheduled to face Antonio Cesaro this week on Raw. Punk was booked to lose, following interference from Kane. This would have been an Elimination Chamber qualifier, thus facilitating Cesaro's new push and Punk's feud with Kane. However, a contradictory source also states Punk was booked only to cut a promo on Kane. Then again, with several scripts knocking about on Monday, it's possible both accounts are true. Whatever the case, Punk was fully pulled from all scripts and was not backstage as the event was taped or Tuesday's Smackdown tapings. All the rewrites that we reported on yesterday all stemmed from Punk's walkout on Raw. Vince McMahon ordering the show to be rewritten two hours before air was because Punk had left the company high and dry. The PWInsider goes on to state "While we cannot 100% confirm why, the belief among wrestlers backstage is that Punk leaving was not an injury issue. It was described to us as more likely a case of burnout and unhappiness with the overall direction of the company." My personal analysis of the latest news is that WWE must be furious with Punk. The walkout caused high drama with late Raw rewrites. As for the legitimacy of the story, I think we can rule out this as an angle. Wrestlers are obviously starting to leak details to Meltzer and Johnson. It's also interesting to note that some fans are starting to turn on Punk, one fan tweeting "you don't just walk out on your job when stuff gets tough."
