Daniel Bryan Yes Autobiography Review: 10 Observations You Need To Know
8. Weird Almost-Kayfabe Chapter Intros
Craig Tello, WWE's Vice President Of Digital Content, is the man in charge of writing the blurbs that introduce each chapter in Daniel Bryan's book. The read follows a strict template of Tello discussing the Bryan's week, building up to WrestleMania XXX, whilst Daniel himself simply talks about his life and pro wrestling career in general.
The intro paragraphs would probably work quite well, if they didn't directly contrast with what Bryan was saying most of the time. Strangely, whilst the wrestler himself is never anything but brutally humble and refreshingly honest about his life and career between the ropes, Tello's blurbs are often written in a kayfabe style, which flies in the face of what the main subject is all about.
This is a curious choice, because whilst it doesn't come close to ruining the book (it's still fascinating to read about Bryan's hectic lifestyle as part of the WWE system), they can be quite jarring and remove the reader from the calm, reflective and candid world that Daniel Bryan paints. They do create great context once Bryan starts talking about 'Mania XXX, but the 'in character' comments that seem to treat storyline rivalries with the likes of Triple H and The Miz as real aren't necessary.
