Dean Ambrose vs AJ Styles For WWE World Title Match Announced For Next Week's Smackdown
Dean Ambrose gets one-on-one rematch with AJ Styles.
Following Dean Ambrose scoring a surprising clean victory over John Cena in the main event of Tuesday's Smackdown - and an AJ Styles run-in attack on both men - General Manager Daniel Bryan announced the main event for next week's episode of the show.
AJ Styles will be defending the WWE World Championship against Ambrose in a rematch from Backlash.
Styles, coming off a major win over Cena at SummerSlam, challenged Ambrose for the WWE World Title at Smackdown's first brand-exclusive Pay-Per-View, pinning "The Lunatic Fringe" to end his three-month reign. The following Tuesday on Smackdown, Cena made his first TV appearance since SummerSlam, challenging Styles to a match for the championship. When Dean Ambrose interrupted, Smackdown Commissioner Shane McMahon booked all three men in a triple threat match at No Mercy - but he also promised that Dean Ambrose would get a singles title shot in the future.
Given that Raw's ratings have been decimated by the start of football season and that the next episode is expected to do especially bad numbers due to the presidential debate, it seems like a lock that Smackdown - with a huge match on top - will outperform Raw next week.
