Did Matt Cardona Just Pull Off The Best Wrestling Angle Of The Year?

The former Zack Ryder brought the heat in his Jon Moxley-apeing GCW angle.

Matt Cardona took part in one of the hottest wrestling angles of the year at Game Changer Wrestling's Zombie Walk on Sunday, attacking GCW Champion Nick Gage in a shocking appearance.

The angle was built from many layers. Gage has been tweeting about the former Zack Ryder a lot lately, challenging the IMPACT Wrestling star to a fight. Meanwhile, the recent Dark Side of the Ring subject has been getting into it with Jon Moxley since April, brawling with Mox to close several GCW shows.

A robbed, hooded figure entered the ring following Gage's match with Jimmy Lloyd at Zombie Walk, imitating Moxley's mannerisms. The crowd popped huge, expecting Moxley, particularly when the invader hit a Paradigm Shift DDT, only for Cardona to pull the swerve.

It took the live crowd a few seconds to realise it was Cardona, not Mox. When they did, the jeers were on point, with a defiant Cardona firing off at the mouth, flipping the audience the bird, and posing with Gage's GCW Title.

A perfectly conceived piece of pro wrestling theatre, it'll be interesting to see if this angle leads to Cardona eventually stepping into Gage's deathmatch realm.
