Does WWE Have The Guts To Give Dolph Ziggler The World Title?

This past week on Monday Night Raw, Dolph Ziggler reigned victorious in a Fatal Four Way Elimination match that took place to determine a new number one contender for the World Heavyweight Championship. He replaes Alberto Del Rio who sustained a concussion at last weeks Smackdown tapings and will face Sheamus at WWE No Way Out this Sunday. The question is, will WWE be gutsy enough to pull the trigger on Ziggler actually winning the belt? Common sense insists that Ziggler has no chance of winning the title at No Way Out. He was never scheduled to be in the match with WWE having always intended for the bout to consist of Del Rio vs Sheamus. Ziggler had never even been a thought in the WWE's creative minds, therefore it would make perfect sense for Sheamus to retain the title and continue his feud with Alberto once the Mexican star has been cleared to return. Ziggler facing Sheamus is technically no more than a filler for WWE to uphold their promise of a World Heavyweight Title match at No Way Out. But then that's what everyone is expecting, isn't it? What if WWE decide to throw a curve ball and actually have Dolph Ziggler claim victory, becoming the new World Heavyweight Champion. In reality this option is the only viable one for WWE. It's no secret that with recent suspensions and injuries WWE's top talent is looking rather vacant. Breaking down the list of talent we see just how diluted the upper card is... Randy Orton - the man is on his last strike with the company due to his second failure of the wellness policy. WWE may very well refrain from putting him back in the main event picture, that's even if he returns to the company. Chris Jericho - is due back in less than two weeks, but shall then be leaving again to take his band Fozzy on tour. Rey Mysterio - although he has previously competed for and three times won the World Championship, he has never really been widely accepted at such a level and will likely be utilized in a mid-card role on his return. Del Rio - can't even be classed as a draw yet and has a lot of work to do to confirm his place in the top tier, although as we reported before officials are starting to get disgruntled with him being so accident prone. Mark Henry - is currently out due to having recently undergone surgery and currently has no expected date of return. Tensai - as stated before is currently undergoing a character restructure as he hasn't gotten over as well as WWE hoped, the sooner he cuts a promo telling fans to shut up about Albert the better. John Cena - has been out of the title picture for months now and is currently stuck in a rut with the Big Show and John Laurinaitis, at least until the next BIG match comes along. And Triple H, Brock Lesnar, The Undertaker and The Rock are ultimately only really being used for the Big Four (SummerSlam, Survivor Series, Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania) when they do appear. So who are we left with currently involved in a main event title picture? CM Punk - Punk is finally at the top of the ladder carrying the WWE title for the Raw brand and doing an excellent job by all means. Daniel Bryan - is slowly but surely clawing his way through the glass ceiling, furthering his stock every week. Kane - is in limbo with no real sense of direction since his return. Sheamus is the World Heavyweight Champion, although WWE fans are yet to warm to him. Having been given a strong, generous push by WWE since Wrestlmania (a win which benefited Bryan more than it did Sheamus) he is stil yet to truly get over with the fans. It's slim pickings at the top of the chain and there is certainly room for one or two additional stars to grab onto that brass ring. So with all this in mind WWE may very well have no other choice but to capatilse on the current situation. They may not want to and they certainly don't have to, but given the various options (or lack of) there is really no alternative than to immediately start pushing up and coming superstars to main event status and there is no better person to start with than Dolph Ziggler. If WWE feel that Dolph Ziggler is not or will never get over with the fans, they simply need to tune into last Monday Night's Raw and listen to the crowds reactions and chants that echoed through the arena for the self professed 'Show Off'. The man oozes charisma and is dynamite in the ring and should be given the opportunity and it should be given now. Yes Ziggler will have a mountain to climb to reach the heights that stars such as Punk, Bryan and the likes of Cena and Triple H have got too. But if he is ever to reach that peak he needs to at least get his foot on the first rock. The benefits for WWE are endless, fresh new stars, expanding merchandise sales and more choice for the main events. What's the worst that could happen? Ziggler's run as the Heavyweight Champion is flat, ultimately getting cut short and he's demoted back to mid-card. It could be no worse than some of the sub-standard reigns we've seen in the past. WWE, you cocked the gun after placing Dolph Ziggler in its chamber, now all you need to do is pull the damn trigger.
