Dolph Ziggler Wins Back Intercontinental Title On WWE Raw
When Ziggler got his rematch for the title he lost, he took full advantage of the opportunity given.
When a champion loses a title in WWE, they automatically get a rematch for the title they lost. It's something that WWE has been doing for many years and fans have gotten used to it. Sometimes the former champions invoke their rematch clause the next night. A lot of the time it happens at the next PPV. Everybody is different and every situation has their own unique twist on the stipulation. This week on Raw, Dolph Ziggler challenged The Miz for the Intercontinental Title and he won back the coveted title he lost one night earlier. Their SummerSlam match wasn't that great, but the match on Raw was very good. For one thing, they got more time on Raw. We also didn't have to hear the Florida Georgia Line country music band on commentary like they were on Raw. They were a major distraction that did more harm than good. They had a creative finish on Raw. It wasn't necessarily fresh, but it played off the Night of Champions result. Towards the end of the match, Ziggler kicked out of the Skull Crushing Finale finisher that The Miz uses. Then there was a familiar sight as Damien Mizdow (Damien Sandow) jumped on the apron to distract and Ziggler kicked him to knock him off just like he did at Night of Champions. Miz went for the rollup with the tights just like at NOC, but this time ZIggler rolled through and he grabbed the tights. The ref didn't see it, so Ziggler ended up winning back his IC Title. It's the third time that ZIggler has won the IC Title. http://youtu.be/vPdrc_cfn3w The loss was in familiar fashion for The Miz because it was the second time he had a one day reign as Intercontinental Champion. On April 7, 2013 on the WrestleMania 29 pre-show, Miz beat Wade Barrett for the IC Title. The next night he lost it back to Barrett. What can be seen as a negative from the switch is that the short title reigns do more harm than good. It shows that anybody can win this title. What would restore the credibility for the title would be if Ziggler defended it nearly every week or every other week and had a reign that lasted about four months. If Ziggler wants to get over as a fighting babyface champion then he needs to do a promo about how he wants to bring prestige back to the IC Title in order to make it special again. The key is to defend it regularly. If he does that, maybe fans will care about the title again. If not, then it's still going to be a secondary title that nobody is able to hold onto for very long. Congrats to Dolph Ziggler for his Intercontinental Title win. He has the talent to make the IC Title matter again. It's up to the creative team to give him a chance to really show what he can do.
