Drew McIntyre has named the man he wants to defend his WWE Championship against at SummerSlam 2020 - and his name is Randy Orton.

McIntyre revealed this on a recent WWE media call, then elaborated when interview by Inside the Ropes (h/t Wrestling Inc.):-

"I think Orton is the one that has to happen. You know right now we're in the position where we're building a lot of people, including myself, and myself and Lashley together I think we'll be able to help each other with MVP bringing each other up, establishing each other as I'm on the rise establishing myself as champion and what my legacy is going to be. But someone like an Orton is someone who can make me work up, really learn from, he's obviously an established name, people tune in saying hey there's Randy Orton."

The champ went on to describe Orton as the potential Joker to his Batman.

McIntyre defends the WWE Title against Bobby Lashley at Backlash this weekend, though this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter notes that the promotion sees Lashley as a flavour-of-the-month challenger. McIntyre could feasibly defeat Lashley at Backlash, then another contender at Extreme Rules (19 July), before moving into an Orton feud.
