Having been kayfabe attacked backstage by Madcap Moss and Happy Corbin at last night's WWE Day 1 PPV, Drew McIntyre has reportedly been written off WWE TV due to legitimate neck issues.

At Day 1, the Scottish Warrior was victorious in singles action against Moss, before he was then assaulted by Madcap and Corbin later in the night. That attack saw the heels place a chair around McIntyre's neck, then hit said chair with a piece of lighting equipment.

The WWE Twitter account was quick to say how the two-time WWE Champion had suffered a "cervical neck strain with severe contusions" as a result of this attack.

In reality, PWInsider reports that McIntyre has been dealing with neck problems for several weeks. As such, this injury angle has been done so that the Scot can undergo the relevant medical testing on his neck to establish just how bad the damage is.

There's no timeframe for when McIntyre will be able to return to the ring, although WWE is obviously hoping this will be more of a short-term absence rather than any lengthy spell on the sidelines for the 36-year-old. As it stands, the situation is described as "up in the air" until Drew is assessed by doctors.
