Eddie Edwards Interview: Slammiversary, Davey Richards, Satoshi Kojima, And More
Speaking about the roster that they've got there, you've been there for seven years, you've seen a lot of people come and go, but just right now, who would you like to face that you haven't faced before?
Eddie: Man, who I haven't faced? I don't even know who's there that I haven't faced. A guy who is TNA, IMPACT Wrestling, and who I have never faced, I've faced in tag matches maybe, but Chris Sabin is a guy who I've never had a singles match with, which is kind of crazy to think about, but you know. He had gone away for some time, and we've done indie shows together, we've never had a singles match. He's another guy synonymous with IMPACT Wrestling and TNA. He's done so much for the company. I'd love to go one on one with him, of course. Then, you know, non-roster, Kenny Omega. He's a non-roster member, but he's the IMPACT World Champion. I would definitely like to face him as well.
Two great matches there! You've already had such a huge amount of great matches in the past with Sami Callihan, Bobby Lashley, and Ace Austin, but I want to ask about when you faced the Hardyz and Team 3D in 2014. That was a great series of matches, so did it feel to work such huge names?
Eddie: It was wild. Me and Davey [Richards] were relatively new in the company, we're coming in as the Wolves. We knew and we felt that we belonged in the upper-echelon of tag team wrestling in general, anywhere, anytime. We fully believed that. But that was the chance and the time for us to prove it. We're going against these legendary tag teams, Hall of Fame tag teams. We had to go out there and we had to prove to not only ourselves, not only the fans, but we had to prove to them that we belong in the ring with them and that we deserve to be given these opportunities that we're given.
Those matches, I say it a lot in my career on the indies and stuff, but it's like if you went back fifteen, twenty, twenty-five years, and you tell me that I'm going to be in the ring with these guys, having these types of matches, tables and ladder matches in New York City, I wouldn't have believed it. But then there it is, it's happening, it was such a huge moment for us. After that, I feel that we earned their acceptance, and it was like, "Okay, now we just keep moving forward and build off of this".
