Edge's 10 Greatest WWE Moments
3. Making John Cena A Megastar
Unforgiven 2006 was an outstanding pay-per-view even before the bell had rang for Edge's TLC WWE Championship defence against John Cena. In order to end the night on a high, the two combatants would have to pull something special out of the bag.
Randy Orton is often credited as John Cena's greatest rival, but Cena's feud with Edge throughout most of 2006 is arguably what sprung Cena into superstardom. A portion of WWE fans were still rejecting Cena at the time; it was clear he required a heel opponent capable of putting him over.
The match itself was a fantastic display of storytelling and ridiculous TLC high spots that lived up to the hype. What's most significant is that it marked the beginning of the then-record 380-day WWE Championship reign that cemented John Cena as WWE's top guy.
Not to pin John Cena's success in the latter half of the '00s solely on Edge, but had Cena been paired with any other performer during that crucial time, he may have never reached the lofty heights he currently occupies.
