39. Forbidden Door 2024
Though this was the least impressive Forbidden Door PPV so far, there were still a few highlights. Through the lens of her unstoppable WWE run, Stephanie Vaquer vs Mercedes Mone now looks like a once-in-a-lifetime dream match. Their bout was a technical masterclass, filled with gripping counters and a relentlessly fast pace. Mone earned the win with The Bank Statement, retaining the TBS Championship and taking Vaquer's NJPW Strong Women's title too. Vaquer would grab the attention of WWE, before Britt Baker returned to a monster pop to stare down the CEO.
Will Ospreay would fall short to AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland in the main event, as he began to distance himself from the conniving ways of Don Callis. Callis and Nana's outside interference would distract the Brit, leaving the door open for Swerve to get the victory with a JML Driver.
NJPW vs AEW matches were less prevalent on this year's edition. Nevertheless, the bizarre sight of The Acclaimed and Hiroshi Tanahashi under the team name Scissor Ace took on The Elite, Zack Sabre Jr kept up his golden Forbidden Door run with a win over Orange Cassidy, and Tetsuya Naito defeated Jon Moxley for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. It didn't hit the usual Forbidden Door heights, but it was still a solid showing from all involved.
