40. Worlds End 2023
Eddie Kingston is justifiably one of the most popular wrestlers in AEW. Since he arrived spitting bars at Cody Rhodes, his relatable perspective and gleefully violent demeanour have earned him fans everywhere he goes. Worlds End 2023 saw Kingston not register his greatest achievement to date, and one of the most feel-good moments in AEW history.
The first Continental Classic tournament was full of great matches and drama, and Kingston defeated Bryan Danielson in the semi-final to set up his date with destiny in the final against long-term friend and enemy, Jon Moxley. The match was another great chapter in their story, and Eddie's victory made him the hero of the evening. It also gave the Continental Classic a perfect ending to make sure the tournament was put on the map for good.
The PPV ended in infuriating fashion however, with MJF relinquishing the AEW title to Samoa Joe and Adam Cole being revealed as The Devil to complete AEW's all-time worst storyline. Add to this the silliness around Christian Cage defeating Adam Copeland for the TNT Championship directly after losing to him, thanks to Luchasaurus winning a title-shot for the belt on the pre-show, and it's only the emotion of Kingston's victory that saved this from being one of the worst nights in AEW history.
