Every AEW World Championship Reign Ranked Worst To Best
2. Kenny Omega - First Reign
Won: Winter is Coming (02/12/2020). Previous Champion: Jon Moxley. Length: 346 days.
The wrestling legend Gorgeous George once said to a young Muhammad Ali, "A lot of people will pay to see someone shut your mouth. So keep on bragging, keep on sassing and always be outrageous". That rings true for this reign, as Omega was a pro at making you root against him.
The Best Bout Machine's lengthy title reign (which clocked in at an impressive 346 days, the longest in AEW history) irked many people the wrong way, but that was the point. His devilish heel persona and cheat-to-win antics made him feel like the final boss of AEW, as he had an iron-tight grip on the belt, and snatching it from him seemed impossible.
This filled all of Kenny's matches with palpable tension, as every contender had the potential to give the arrogant fool a taste of his own medicine. But, he would always find a way to win, making each of his successful defences more and more frustrating.
Kenny Omega always felt like the right move for AEW World Champion. His position as an EVP meant he had a passion for the promotion, which he brought every time he stepped out wearing that strap. Things have fallen behind for him now, but this still remains a career-best year for the Cleaner.
