Every Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

5. Pain & Gain

Pain And Gain
Universal

Ok hear me out. Michael Bay is Not Good, in fact I'd maybe stretch to Not Good At All verging on Actually Bad, but Pain & Gain is easily the best thing he has ever, ever, ever, ever done. I'm not sure how deliberate it is, but the over-riding commentary on western fragility and the weirdly dark humour meshes off the... well, Michael Bay-ness of it all to actually give you something really interesting.

Yeah, sure, it's also a lot of very muscly men has all the cliches you'd expect - they're wisecracking, they're formulaic and, hey, look over there, a woman is bending over something - but this lack of self-awareness actually comes off in parts as incredibly self-aware. At face value it's odd, but as a pastiche of itself it's a legitimate conversation starter that can fully engage you for 2 hours.
