According to (the polarising) Dave Meltzer, this fatal 4-way between defending WWE Champion John Cena, Shawn Michaels, Randy Orton and Edge was WWE's highest rated match of the 2007, and it not only received the highest star rating in more than two years, but would not be beaten for two more years following it.

Cena and Michaels were in the middle of their golden run together, lighting up the top feud on Raw with sensational matches at WrestleMania 23, as well as their 1-hour instant classic on Raw just six days prior to the Backlash pay-per-view they found themselves on here.

Edge and Orton were similarly intertwined, both looking to move on at the end of their Rated RKO run, putting on a sensational one-on-one classic of their own on Raw the night after Backlash.

The match itself was beautifully constructed, keeping the crash and bash to a minimum in the early stages, allowing the crowd to ease into the contest having just witnessed a wild Last Man Standing match between The Undertaker and Batista moments earlier. Edge and Orton teamed up, even putting Michaels in a double Boston Crab, only to turn on each other.

Michaels and Cena picked up where they'd left off in their previous encounters, gelling beautifully to keep the match firing on all cylinders. The final three minutes that brought it all together is pure wrestling theatre at its absolute finest, with finishers coming from all directions and one of the more unique match endings in company history.
