This match could have somehow eclipsed the electrifying match that was Sami Zayn vs. Shinsuke Nakamura earlier on in the night, it only it wasn’t for doctor stoppage.

These two went to war, willing to beat the hell out of each other to win. When Joe got busted open early, the crowd reached an intense climax. The scene of blood gushing down Joe’s face while the two exchanged blows was enough to send them into a frenzy.

You almost started to get the feeling that this was going to be an all-time classic in WWE history. Then the backstage officials started screaming down the earpieces of the referee and the ringside doctors. The crowd was not happy and the match was stopped every time the action started to pick up, making it almost impossible to get invested.

Undeterred, the pair still delivered a match that was intense, physical and hard-hitting in all the right ways. A nice nod to Bret Hart vs. Roddy Piper from WrestleMania VIII with the finish was just the cherry on top that the match needed. Just a shame that due to circumstances beyond anyone’s control, the match was ultimately drained of any showstopping power that it almost had.
